Oregon Trail is fast approaching, and all I hear every day, is “What’s happening?, What’s going on?” Actually I don’t hear that very often at all, but if you’re reading this you must be curious. First off, all the usual things are happening. DPii is on the ground as of yesterday night. I can hear the engine in the other room, which means Phil is doing the alignment. At 100 Acre Wood Rally imperfections in the short block deck caused our fancy cometic head gasket to vaporize. RalliSpec and I have made some new machine shop friends. It’s always good to meet new people, that way you have someone else to scapegoat when you mess up. In the racing world it’s usually best to scapegoat Don Imus, what was he thinking?
Now we’ve got 3 or 4 systems that will be new for Oregon Trail, Nothing terribly fancy. We had to relocate the intercom to make room for a new drink holder. I can’t even count how much beer has been spilled on stage. Naw, that’s a joke, I prefer martinis in a rally car.
There is still a bit of tuning and shaking that have to happen before Phil and I head out next Monday. That being said I should get back to work. Not that I’m not having fun penning this Pulitzer prize winning press put-out, but it snowed again today, and I need the ground to thaw so I can pour a concrete slab for repair work on my house. What,? Oh yea the snow has put me in a bad mood.
In conclusion, I’d forgot to thank everybody who helped out at 100 AW. I’m pretty sure the head gasket was leaking at Perce Niege. We didn’t just finish with a blown head gasket, we started with one. I can’t tell you how hard the crew worked with band-aid after band-aid to get us to the finish. I was putting close to a gallon of water in between every stage.
I’d say OT is usually good to us, but last year was really rough. A rear diff gernaded, costing us time early on in the rally. Not having enough tires slowed us on the second day, and eventually a degraded oil line finished our rally.
