| A sad day for Conservation |

It was a sad day for conservation Tuesday night, as with one voice the people of Marlborough New Hampshire spoke, and what they said was, “More Development Please!” Marlborough passed ordinances prohibiting the traditional land uses of hunting and snowmobiling, while at the same time appropriating money for the repair the 20 year old bridge to the Marlborough Estates. Ordinance Amendments 1, 2, and 3 passed, which put limits on motorsports facilities (both ‘motorsports’ and ‘facilities’ are undefined and unlimited), game parks, and wind farms. The town also went of record “…in support of effective actions by the President and Congress to address the issue of climate change…” With the passage of the ordinances both the incentive and ability to keep land open for public recreational use is severely impaired. Marlborough also appropriated 180,000 to repair the culvert at Gates Road. The recently built bridge leads the to the quaint country condominiums at the Estates. Clearly the Hyundai Sonatas and Toyota FJ Cruisers can not navigate the dirt of Ryan Road, which they would have to use if the bridge was closed. If you are old, but can still cross the parking lot from the nursing home to vote at the school, if you have no kids to subject to the moldy school, If you have an irresponsible development project that can not be approved anywhere else, or if you just don’t like trees, Marlborough New Hampshire is the place for you! The town’s people will even subsidize anything that brings the town farther from being rural and quaint. But act fast, with prisons popping up right around the corner, there may not be room for further subdivisions. Just kidding, there will always be room for more subdivisions. |
