Well here's one curious person. I have been checking in on the site everyday for a while, not seen much for new news and thinking, "What's the deal???", so here's a shout for more updates! Though I do realize you have a shop full of cars to work on too... So how are Kylie and Eve comming??
Hope the car flys smoothly at Oregon!!
Yea, I've been slacking in the news department. In the gap between 100aw and OT I've been spending most of my time repairing my house. I could write of the joys of being my own contractor, but it's hardly as glamorous as writing about being covered in motoroil.
Kylie is waiting to be worked on. Her front end is way out of wack, and I've been discusssing with Phil where to pry and where to portapower.
Eve is ready for a motor, which is being rebuilt at Rallispec. I've been finding, through experimentation, what the best tollerances for the various machined parts all over the car is. Obviously factory specs are best, but with the freuency of rebuilds, it's really expensive to replace everything that isn't at factory spec.
DPII is going to be road tested this afternoon. Road testing means driving down the road looking in the rearview for things that fall off.
I also had time to rebuild a Toyota Tacoma to replace my incompetent F350. They are very differnt trucks, but I think the Toyota is more of what I want my truck to be than the 350. I've been high centered in mud about 10 too many times. and that's not 4bying, thats getting firewood, and fixing fencelines. And when a F350 gets stuck, you need a wrecker, once I needed 2 wreckers.
Finally, and I hate to say this, There is more going on in DPII than in any of the other rallycars out there, and I don't want to publisise the tens of little mods that lead to gross unreliability , but in my dreams give me a competitive edge.
So the news has been light latley. And it is just me and Phil here now. With my attention divided, everybody thinks I'm slacking. Phil, Jess, you... Rallying has gotten to the point that it really is a job. I have to wake up early and tired, and get to bed late and exhausted. I can't complaign too much because I do it to myself, and I really take pride in my accomplishments. However, Not only have I not been sucessfull in growing my buisness, I faced a bunch of consecuative losing years, and as a buisness owner, that really, more than any number of late nights, takes a toll.
I'm not writing this to may anyone feel sorry for me, rather I think one of the appeals to this site, and my team is that I'm usually very honest about what is actually going on, atleast when I'm not kidding around.
The really funny thing is that in the rally-america world most people know who I am, but in Marlborough NH, no one knows. Not only that, but the good people of Marlborough are scared of the little bit of rumor and misinformation thay do hear. They passed and ordinace to stop me from building a rally race track in a 8 acre field. I can't get insured for squat, In the real world I actually feel discriminated against because of all this.
Unfortunatly that's the news, and the ground still hasn't thawed for pouring that concrete, and the my house about 1/6th vinyl sided. It would seem that no matter how good things are, and life is great, there is still an awfull lot to complaign about. So... come to a concensus about some component of the car that you want a article about and I'll put it toghter, pictures and all. Not the tranny though, I don't know what the hell goes on in that thing.
