Snow Tyres - 2006/09/07 17:51 I have a picture of a Subaru World Rally car at Rally Sweden at home on my computer, and i noticed that when i looked at the tyres they were extremely skinny. What is the purpose of this?

Re:Snow Tyres - 2006/09/08 11:49 If I remember right, it's so they will dig down into the snow and grab the ice or whatever is underneath.

Re:Snow Tyres - 2006/09/11 08:45 Tyler is right. The skinny snow tires cut through moderate to deep snow, to get down to the hard surface below. WR Teams are allowed very big studs, so even if it is ice below the snow, the studs will dig into it. In North America we arn's allowd the studs, but it is still better to cut through the snow and let the soft ice compound get traction, instead of "floating" over the top layer of snow.

And now you know
