Owned By a Mustang - 2006/10/06 07:29 I drive a 2000 blue 2.5 RS. I've done a cold air intake and a Borla Exhaust and a couple other speed mods. I've always thoulght it was really fast.

I was driving home the other day, and had to stop at a light. My side of the road was 2 lanes, but they merged to one lane like 200 yards down the street.

Well, there was a rattly looking 89 mustang already stopped at the light. The thing was falling apart and I didn't think anything of it. I figured I'd pull ahead of him, but he didn't know.

So the light changes, and I'm ready for it. My launch is perfect, texxtbook. I'm off like a shot, reving the piss out of first, then second. I get it into third, and the mustang is by me.

That guy didn't even know were were racing and he owned my ass, even after I had a couple of car legnths on him. I'd thoulght my subaru was fast, but now I realize it's just a 4 cylander econobox

Re:Owned By a Mustang - 2006/10/06 16:55 It may have looked like a shatbox, but it was probably a 5.0L.

Re:Owned By a Mustang - 2006/10/07 22:22 For of all, two things:

1) The GC 2.5RS is actually the GC WRX/STi overseas, except brought to the US without the turbo engine. The 2.5RS was brought to the US without the turbo engine due to emissions regulations. With the correct turbo engine in your 2.5RS/WRX it would have been a much different story. The 2.5RS in stock form runs ~16sec 1/4 miles. The GD WRX STi's in stock form are running 12's. And slightly tuned STi's are running high 11's. Currently, at Delta V Motorsports a few miles from where I live, they have a whole collection of GC/GD WRX's putting out 500BHP & 600BHP running 10's and lower in the 1/4. With suspension setups for Virginia International Raceway

2) Equally as important is that the Subaru is not built to be a drag racing car, but a Rally car. The Subaru's are unbelievable in the sun, rain, mud, snow, turning, sliding, everywhere in every condition. Race the Mustang on a curvy road and watch the Mustang disappear in your rearview mirror. The Mustang does one thing and one thing well, drive in a straight line. In my 2.5RS at any Autocross or Rallycross I easily hand the Mustang's there asses day in and day out over and over. Mustang's at a Rally are a complete joke. With my WRX build, I will take it to the track as well. If you want to compete against a Mustang in a straight line, you are going to need to build your Subaru. If you want to compete against them anywhere else, you already have them beat. Once you build your Subaru, you will truly own a supercar.

Re:Owned By a Mustang - 2006/10/08 16:25 The reason the Mustang is competing in the Rally is because it was cheaper for the owner to race than his WRX.

Re:Owned By a Mustang - 2006/11/22 09:50 I'm going to make a post about this in the technical section.
