Won't let me access from home? - 2005/10/07 23:03
For some reason I couldn't register or login at home. I run mozilla firefox if that has anything to do with it. Atleast I have plenty of time to kill at work.

I use Firefox almost %100 of the time without any problems (Firefox 1.0.7). The only way you will be unable to login is if you block the website's cookie.
In Firefox, check to make sure you are accepting all cookies from this website, reset all of your cookies, and then restart Firefox.
Thanks and let me know if this solved your login problem.

Double checked cookies and they were all fine. It lets me login now, but it wouldn't let me register. I know, odd.

Registering for this website only fails to work if:
1) You tried to register and your email system/program blocked the email and you never received it (it should appear in your Inbox within minutes of registering).
2) You tried to register once, your didn't not receive/deleted/etc. the registration email and tried to register again too soon.
The new Newsletter code, which I am working on completing, will work the same way. This is to prevent SPAM bots, other people, and accidental problems from occuring.
If you are having a legitimate problem registering with this website, please let me know at your earliest opportunity and I will work to correct it.
Thanks,

When I tried to register it just wouldn't let me submit it from home. I've got no idea whats wrong with this 7+ year old computer anymore. So many updates to hardware/software over the years to keep it good, but it's starting to really show it's age.

I was explaining the solutions in detail so that they will be useful to other people who may experience the same problems as well.

Yeah, I figured that. I was just trashing on my computer. It's old, it needs to be put down.

Honestly, the problem is Windows and not your hardware. A fresh installation of Windows (NOT anything less than Windows 2000) will most likely solve your problems. Unfortunately, that is the only option to fix Windows most of the time, but should never have to be done with a properly written OS.
Have you tried using Linux yet? My favorite Linux distribution is Mandriva (previously Mandrake). Others love Suse or Fedora. You will have to try them to see which distribution works best for you. I have used Linux since 1993.
On the other hand, I am totally in love with Apple OS X. Once Apple moves to Intel/AMD I'm leaving Windows forever.

Technologys not really my thing, I can handle it, and trouble shoot most things, but the inner voodoo that makes it work is my brothers domain. The bigger problem is what my computer was/is. A learning tool for my little brother. He messed with it all through highschool, updating this and that. He does very good work now, but some of the hardware he installed years ago wasn't quite so good. Bad soldering, prongs broken off a chip here or there. It randomly started smoking last winter a couple times, I set the tower on the porch so if it decided to go the house wouldn't go with it. It's frankenputer.
It's more worth it to just start with a clean slate from what I keep finding. I figure a comperable computer is 1/50th what my dad paid for it back in 95?, so it might be worth it to just start from scratch with something a little more complete. By complete I mean not only funtioning well, but everything there. The power button broke off a couple weeks ago, so I jam a pen in the front to turn it on. My sister was cat sitting a while ago and the cat jumped off the moniter behind the computer and broke off a jack plug in for a speaker thats now stuck in the back of the computer. After that long with a family of 6 kids using it, it's bound to break.
My brother updated it about a year back and started to run linix on it, but he gave up on it for some reason (he never told me why, nor did I care at the time). It's runing the latest version of windows xp since June, and it still hasn't helped much.
Either way I should be getting a laptop by January for school, so I'll have my own thing I won't have to worry about later. Are Ibooks any good? There arn't to many mac people around this area, so I havn't had a look at them.

Okay, in your case the hardware and OS are trashed. It does sound a good time to buy a new computer.
I bought my fiancee an iBook in August. Awesome laptop. The screen is beautiful, the wireless connection is amazing, it runs completely silent, lasts ~6 hours on the battery with moderate use, and never ever has a problem. Plus, the user interface is absolutely incredible. My fiancee literally charges her iBook up overnight, goes to the university during the day, uses it on and off throughout the day (wireless), comes home and uses it all night (wireless), plugs it in overnight and starts out the next day again with no problems. Pretty cool laptop. Depending on your use, such as video games, you may want a PowerBook but for everything except gaming the iBook is perfect.
Like I said, when Apple completely moves to Intel/AMD, I'm switching to Apple.
