Re:Whats new?? - 2006/03/20 14:44 Alright, alright, I won't leave today untill I have some new pictures up. Deepii would have the cage in by now but we're having problems with custom cages. the cage the built for us had crimps in the A pillar, and didn't fit anyway. So they requested we send it back, and when we did they refused the package.

I'm working on buildinga monster 2.5 rs motor. I got a 2.5 semiclosed deck sti block from RalliSpec, and I'm trying to figure out how to get high compresion pistons. I'd prefer not to change the engine managment, but I might have to. Cobb tuning seemed to think that I shouldn't increase the compresion without remapping, which they sait could be done to the stock ecu. I've heard of reflashes, but not straight up tuning on a stock ecu.

Deepii's engine harness is done, but I am waiting on parts for the center box. In general we are way ahead of schedual and waiting on other people to get things to us. Efficiency is such a bitch.

I'm closing on a piece of poperty in a few weeks, then I'll start building a permanent home for Paladin Rally, and it will be world class.

I'll write more later

Re:Whats new?? - 2006/03/20 16:01 Whoa, you said Cobb Tuning without having your lips burst into flames

What model year 2.5RS are you working on building? Cobb Tuning and a lot of the people who have worked on building a normally aspirated 2.5L engine have said the same thing, no increase in CR without a corresponding reprogram of the ECU.

As far as ECU reprogramming and performance parts, I am suprised Rallispec does not have those parts available for you? Personally, there are two companies who built quality Subaru parts in the USA (aside from Cobb Tuning):

1) I-Speed USA (http://www.i-speedusa.com): I-Speed USA has a complete 2.5RS ECU reflash package available as well as world-class building experience. The also did the first 2.0L WRX engine swap into a 2.5RS in the US. Which brings me to...

2) Crawford Performance (http://www.crawfordperformance.com): Eh, they built Putnam's CPD Subaru, DC Shoes Gumball 3000 Subaru, etc. etc. etc., they figured out a way to build a stroked 2.5L (don't have the actual displacement...2.7L?), have about every custom designed engine component available, and make amazing reliable power.

With a combination of Cobb, I-Speed USA, and Crawford Performance I don't see how you can go wrong

Re:Whats new?? - 2006/03/20 17:26 I'll tell you exactly how I can go wrong.

I just ordered 11.2:1 pistons from http://www.techworkseng.com/Products/Subaru_Forged_Pistons.htm

I believe they are manufactured from Wiseco, the same gents that made the stroker pistons for Deepii.

I'm not going to do any tuning, just on principle, and we shall see how it turns out. I'll have to get upgraded head gaskets, and head bolts. The way I see it, I'm not changing the total air or fuel going into my cylander. If I don't upgrade my fuel Octain I'll get an awfull knock.

So... That's my plan I'll keep you posted on how it turns out.

I'm pretty excited, it takes a lot of effort to get the kind of BANG!! and experiment like this can make

Re:Whats new?? - 2006/03/20 17:30 By the way, I have the actual 2.5 outback motor that Cobb welded the deck closed, put 2 liter heads on, and David Higgins won the 2002 SCCA championship with.

It melted on me I haven't been happy with Cobb ever since.
